Guide
Wix social share image
Wix writes the share image, title, and description from Social share settings. A page type can use one pattern. One page, blog post, or product can replace it. Publishing the site does not make Facebook forget the card it already stored.
A pattern for every page of one type
Wix’s SEO Settings article is the current site-wide screen. The same Social share fields are repeated in Customizing the Social Share Settings.
- Go to SEO & GEO in the site dashboard.
- Under Tools and settings, click SEO Settings.
- Select the page type. Wix only lists types that exist on the site. Products shows up after Wix Stores is added. Blog posts are their own type.
- Click Edit next to Basics & social share.
- Scroll to Social share.
Until you change them, og:title is the title tag from SEO basics, and og:description is the meta description. The image is og:image. A variable uses a different file on each page. One image URL uses the same file for every page of that type. Wix’s tip for a static file is Get an Image URL from Site Files: hover the file, click More Actions, then Copy URL. Click Save.
The same screen has X (Twitter). Until you change them, x:title copies og:title and x:description copies og:description. You can set Select card size to Large or Small, plus x:title, x:description, and x:image. Wix’s X settings article says any X settings saved here apply to every page that uses that SEO setting. It also says X uses its own criteria, so the fields are likely to be used and not guaranteed, and a change can take up to a week to appear in X shares.
Wix’s older Changing Your Og:Image article still documents a second site-wide upload: open the site’s settings, Site and Domain → Website settings, then General social image → Upload Image. The click after you pick the file is Add Icon, then Save, then publish from the editor. The current SEO Settings article does not mention General social image, and it does not say which upload wins if both are set. Read og:image on the live URL rather than assuming.
One page in the editor
In the Wix Editor, the same og:image article sets a single page like this:
- Click Pages & Menu on the left of the editor.
- Hover the page, click More Actions, then Social share.
- Click Upload Image, pick the file, then Add to Page.
- Publish the site.
That article says you can also set the page’s og:title and og:description from the social share settings. It does not list extra clicks for those two fields. By default, Wix’s Social share article uses the SEO title tag and meta description for og:title and og:description.
X on that page is a separate block. The X settings article says: Pages & Menu → the page → More Actions → Social Share → X Settings. From there, upload or replace the image, choose Card size, and fill x:title and x:description, then publish. In the Studio Editor the panel is Pages, not Pages & Menu, then More Actions → Social Share → X Settings, then publish. Wix recommends titles under 80 characters and descriptions under 300, because the rest can be cut.
An older troubleshooting article still says Menus & Pages and SEO (Google). That is not the wording of the current editor articles above. Use Pages & Menu → Social share.
To edit one page from the dashboard instead of the editor, the SEO Settings article says SEO & GEO → SEO Settings → the page type → Edit by Page (the tab name changes: Edit by Product, Edit by Post). Open the page, then the Social share tab, upload the image, edit og:title, og:description, and the Twitter settings, and click Publish.
A blog post
Wix’s blog SEO article sets one post from the post itself:
- Go to Blog in the dashboard.
- Click Edit next to the post.
- Click the SEO tab on the left.
- Click Social share.
Wix splits that block in two. Social Share is the image, title, and description for networks such as Facebook and Pinterest. X Settings is a separate image, card size, title, and description for X. On the same SEO tab, the Basics steps end with Publish. The Social share subsection does not repeat its own publish button.
The same article says you can apply one pattern to every post from the site’s SEO Settings, and points at the SEO Settings article. That is the Blog posts page type, then Basics & social share.
An older Sharing a Blog Post article describes a different fallback: the cover image is what gets shared; with no cover, the first image in the post; with no image at all, “the image is taken from the social tab in your dashboard.” Its clicks are Blog → Settings tab for the cover, and the SEO tab only for the title tag and meta description. That is not the Social share block in the current blog SEO article. The two articles do not say which file wins when a cover and a Social share image are both set. Check the live og:image.
A product
Wix’s product SEO article is the short path:
- Go to Products.
- Open the product.
- Click Edit SEO Settings under Marketing & SEO.
- Click the Social share tab.
- Add a social share image, edit the default og:title, og:description, and the X settings, then click Save.
The product sharing article names the image clicks: hover the image, Change to replace it, or Adjust to edit it in Photo Studio. It says og:title defaults to the page’s title tag, and og:description defaults to the product’s meta description. X Settings on that tab is a different image, Select card size, x:title, and x:description.
Those product steps end with Save. The SEO Settings article’s Edit by Page flow, which includes products, ends with Publish. Use the button on the screen you have open, then read the live product URL.
Why the card still shows the old image
Three different things get called “the image,” and only the live tag counts. Confirm it the way a crawler does:
curl -sL https://example.com/your-page | grep -i og:image
You want one og:image, and an absolute https:// URL. If this is still the old file, the published page has not changed. Editor steps end with publish. A product’s Social share steps end with Save. A page-type pattern ends with Save. An individual Social share image is the file for that URL: changing the page-type pattern does not replace an image already set on that page. The dashboard place for one URL is Edit by Page, Edit by Post, or Edit by Product, then Social share.
If curl already shows the new file and the app shows the old card, the app stored the previous result. Wix’s og:image size article says to enter the URL in Facebook’s debugger after you change the image. It also lists the Twitter Card Validator, Pinterest’s debugger, and LinkedIn Post Inspector. Wix’s outdated Facebook thumbnail article says to click Debug, then Fetch new information if the URL has never been shared, or Scrape Again if it has. It says Scrape Again sometimes has to be clicked more than once. The page-edit clicks in that article are the older Menus & Pages wording, so use it for the debugger, not for finding Social share.
Wix’s X article says a changed page can take up to a week to show in X shares, and it still points at the Twitter Card Validator. That validator is not a working public rescrape tool. What each app actually refreshes is in clear Open Graph cache. CardScope reads the page when you check it. It does not clear those caches.
Size can also shrink the card. Wix, citing Facebook, wants a 1.91:1 image, 1200×630, under 8MB. It says the minimum is 200×200 and recommends at least 600×315, and that a smaller file shows as a small preview. The same article says a WhatsApp preview of a blog post or URL only displays the image when the file is under 300KB. A 1200×630 PNG or JPEG is the usual cross-app file in OG image size and OG image format. The Open Graph image resizer crops to 1200×630 in the browser. If the tag is missing for another reason, walk og:image not showing.
FAQ
Where is the image for every page of one type?
SEO & GEO → Tools and settings → SEO Settings → the page type → Edit next to Basics & social share → Social share. Set og:image to one URL, or to a variable. Save. X has its own image and card size on that screen. A separate Website settings → General social image upload is still in an older article. Wix does not say which one wins.
How do I set one page, post, or product?
A main page in the Wix Editor is Pages & Menu → More Actions → Social share, then publish. Studio Editor uses Pages → More Actions → Social Share. A blog post is Blog → Edit → SEO → Social share. A product is Products → the product → Edit SEO Settings → Social share, then Save. The dashboard can also open one URL from SEO Settings → Edit by Page (or Edit by Post, or Edit by Product).
I uploaded a new image and the card is unchanged.
Publish or save, then check og:image with the curl line above. If the live tag is still old, an individual Social share image may be overriding the pattern, or the site was not published. If the live tag is new, re-scrape. Facebook’s steps are in Wix’s thumbnail article. The other apps are in clear Open Graph cache.
What does a CardScope check cost?
Previews for X, LinkedIn, Slack, Discord, iMessage, Bluesky, Threads, Mastodon, WhatsApp, Telegram, and Microsoft Teams, plus the fix checklist, are Pro: $19 once via Stripe Checkout. No account. A sample report shows the shape of the result before you pay. A free partial check names whether og:image and og:title are set. We parse HTML in memory and discard it — we do not store the page.
